Hi hi!
This summer I started doing research for the first time! I’m a research assistant at the University of Chicago with a group that focuses on leukemia and lymphoma. I’m working with my mentor on providing evidence to support a patent for a new drug mechanism that she developed. I’ve learned a lot of basic lab techniques, and one of my jobs is to genotype the mice she uses for her project. However, ever since I’d been hired, she’s had issues with gel electrophoresis, so I was basically in charge of figuring out what was wrong with it. My lab partner and I have only had failures ever since I was hired at the beginning of the summer, but this past Friday we finally got good results and fixed the problems! Having my first success after a whole month of working there already was lowkey very stressful like why are you setting me up for failure!!?!? But it’s all good now and I’m happy I was able to make things easier for my coworkers.
The horror…
In other news, I’ve been baking up a storm in my kitchen. My dad is very mad at me because I keep making the house warmer whenever the oven is on, but a girl with a sweet tooth’s gotta satisfy those cravings so idk what to tell him. This week I’m making personalized desserts for each of my friends, so I chose earl grey tea cookies, butter mochi, and copycat chocolate chunk cookies from Levain bakery in New York (my favorite place ever). I baked everything today and made stickers with my mom’s label maker, so after I write this I’m going to package them up in sealable bags, slap on some stickers, and tie them with cute bows so they seem legit. Like the real deal. Like from a real bakery. Maybe they’ll pay me. Who knows.
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. Stay tuned for more updates from me later this summer B)

Hello hello hello!!
I’m super excited to get started with the Guitarrón Chronicles this summer, hosted by those who play the best instrument in the mariachi (me and Hannah, your guitarrónists, obviously). This summer has definitely been a busy one for me!
First off, a big congratulations to my sister for graduating from high school!! We had an epic graduation party (shoutout to my tía for making this lovely Pikmin cake) for her in early June. I had been scrambling all week with both party planning and putting my final affairs in order because I had a flight to my internship abroad the day after!
I am currently working abroad (shoutout Loewenstern fellowship) at Pygmalion Tech, an education company that helps develop STEM curriculum in Medellín, Colombia! The first few weeks have definitely been an adjustment, especially since it’s my first time out of the country and with the more rigorous than expected Spanish language requirement (no sí sabo!!). I’ve had a ton of fun working, whether it be teaching kids or doing research, and exploring the city— matter of fact, we traveled to Guatape this past weekend! We climbed La Piedra, a terribly tall rock featuring over 700 steps. But the view was so awesome it was definitely worth me exercising for the first time in months. We had a bunch of pit stops along the way for traditional food along the way, and I rode a 4-wheeler around Finca La Manuela which was once owned by Pablo Escobar. Here’s a short article on a bit of the history. It’s safe to say I definitely learned a lot, especially about where to hide my valuables…
Anywho, I will talk more about my shenanigans a bit later in the chronicles, hope y’all enjoy learning about what other Mariachi Luna Llena members are up to this summer! 🙂
CON AMOR,
Danielle & Hannah
