Andrea & Camila’s Cozumel Trip & A Stanford Graduation 🏖️🎓

Hello hello hello!! Welcome back to the Guitarrón Chronicles hosted by your fellow guitarrónes, Danielle and Hannah! A warm welcome to this week’s blogger, long-time mariachi mom and guitar-player Andrea!!

‧₊˚❀‧₊˚. Andrea & Camila’s Summer Update 7-2-25 ‧₊˚❀‧₊˚.

Holaaaa!
So far, this summer has been pretty eventful, from celebrating birthdays and graduations, to saving a life (literally).

Welcoming Lucia: over the years, we have had many mariachi firsts: first alumni, first proposal, first wedding, first doctor/lawyer/PhD… and this summer we welcomed the first mariachi baby!!! Welcome to the world, Lucia, and congratulations to Romeo and Katie!

Peter and Callan’s graduation AND engagement!: two of my dearest friends graduated from Stanford with their PhD in biosciences. I couldn’t miss it, so I flew to California to celebrate. A couple days after, Peter proposed!!! (Finally, hahaha). Congratulations Dr Gnocchi (Callan) and Potato (Peter-mariachi alumni)! 💍

California trip and encounters: while in California, I was lucky to explore San Francisco, the Muir Woods, Napa, and meet with not one, but two current mariachi members!! Whaaaaaaat?!! Tobias was at Stanford for his sister’s graduation, and Brian is doing an internship at Apple this summer, so we met in San Francisco. As a bonus, Dr. Mario Bencomo, original mariachi member and current professor at Fresno university, dropped by to celebrate the graduation. It would have been four encounters, but that weekend Joel (current member) was out. 😭

Pollo’s quince and trip: my beautiful daughter turned fifteen this June!!!🎂 To celebrate my Pollo (yes, I call her chicken), we had a small backyard party, and my present to her was a trip to Cozumel!!! ✈️🌊👙🌴🐠🤿I’m very proud of her as she also finished her freshman year with excellent grades.

Saving a life: yesterday we were at the beach when we heard a young lady in the water yelling for help: her boyfriend was drowning. Although many others were around and even closer, nobody reacted. I jumped into the water, carried the man out to shore and started CPR as he was not breathing and didn’t have a pulse. A doctor came and helped until we finally got a pulse and shallow breaths before the ambulance arrived. I found out today that the guy made it! Yay!!! 🎉 I debated if I should share this story or not, as I’m not seeking praise. I am sharing this to encourage people to learn CPR, you never know when you may need it! Many institutions offer free courses such as the Red Cross, fire departments, and even Rice!!! Even if you have to pay for the course, there is no price on a life. There are also other ways to give back, such as donating blood. I do it on a regular basis and this month at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, they give you a $25 gift card for your donation! 🩸

What’s next? The rest of the summer I will be working as usual, playing volleyball on Sundays, dancing salsa and bachata whenever I can, playing some guitar, and enjoying the days my Pollo is with me. 😁

I’m looking forward to seeing all my mariachis when the semester starts and am eager to perform again!!!

Until next week!
Con amor,
Danielle & Hannah
