Hello everybody!! ☀️
Nancy Martinez here, reporting live from what turned out to be quite an eventful summer! Even though most of my days follow a similar routine, there have still been plenty of moments that are worth sharing. Buckle up!
🚌Internship Adventures:

This summer, I had the opportunity to work as an engineering intern at the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO). It’s been so rewarding to get some field experience after doing a lot of academic work for the past years, especially since I want to pursue a career in transportation. Seeing how a massive public transportation company like METRO operates behind the scenes has been fascinating!
Most of my days involve construction management: checking on active projects at bus operating facilities and learning how to keep every project running smoothly, even if there are some hiccups along the way. The highlight of this week was definitely the fact that I got to meet METRO’s CEO this week! We chatted a bit, and he shared how METRO is currently shifting focus toward upgrading and improving its existing infrastructure and assets. Looking forward to the updates that they are moving to install. Support public transportation whenever you can!
🏓Pickleball & Biking:

After clocking out, I’ve been making the most of Houston’s rain-cooled, milder summer. Pickleball has swiftly moved to become one of my favorite hobbies this summer. It’s a perfect way to shake off the “slow-office” feeling. I know many people say that it is tennis for lazy people, but I think that pickleball is its own beautiful thing. The mix of relaxed versus quick keeps it fun and social. I like talking, not just playing.
Also, special shoutout to mariachi alum Anna Tetreault for gifting me her bike before she bittersweetly graduated! Thanks to her, I’ve been rolling around town very frequently. I’ve been going on a couple-mile-long rides, discovering that I actually do enjoy cycling still! Part of me is tempted to try out for the bike team, but to be honest, that still seems so intimidating. Baby steps…
🎬The Cinema:
This week’s movie adventure: Formula One! I won’t spoil anything, but it was honestly so entertaining, with high-speed racing scenes with a pretty good plot, and driven shots that kept the story pretty balanced and my eyes glued to the screen. I’ve never been into motor sports as I thought they were pretty dangerous. However, after the movie, I still think they’re pretty dangerous, but I understand the thrill. Highly recommend the movie if you want to feel a lot of suspense and thrill. I would love to watch Superman next week! Everyone has been hyping it up, so I’m excited to see if it lives up to the word
🪇Looking ahead:
Summer is not over yet, and I’m excited for what’ next, especially with all the upcoming guitarron chronicles with my mariachi family! Thanks for catching up with me, and make sure you’re having fun this summer!
Saludos,
Nancy Martinez
